ZHUKOVSKY, Moscow Region, Jul 20 (PRIME) -- Russia’s newest fifth generation light fighter aircraft Checkmate will be ready in four years, Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov told reporters at the MAKS-2021 airshow on Tuesday.
“The main innovation that will be available in the next four years is a new single-engine fighter. We have not produced such planes for a long time, and we want to return to the club of states that sell such aircraft on the international market,” he said.
The price of the fighter will amount to “U.S. $25–30 million,” Chemezov also said.
According to Chemezov, the price of comparable foreign fighters, France’s Dassault Rafale and Sweden’s Saab Gripen stands at $60–90 million.
